The institution received a phone call from a person in Minnesota who indicated that "HCC" had illegally taken and posted pictures from their website. We were given until this morning to take down the pictures or we would be sued for $500,000.00. Needless to say, I instructed [the system administrator] to copy the project folder and then pull it off of the site yesterday afternoon. It seems as though the student did give credit on her project for the pictures; however, [the student] didn't get "written" permission to display them for public access. Please make sure that you stress in your syllabus the need for students to receive written permission from the source if they wish to place someone else's intellectual property on any folder where the server has public access.
